Golf GTI mk1

The first-generation Golf GTI: the pioneer

Launched in 1976, the Golf GTI Mk1 is widely regarded as the car that created the hot hatch class. Beneath a three-door body styled by Giugiaro, its 1.6-litre four-cylinder with K-Jetronic mechanical injection produced 110 hp, a remarkable figure for such a light car. In 1982 a 1.8-litre engine took over, shortly before the second generation arrived.

Enthusiasts know its trademarks by heart: the red stripe framing the black grille, the wheel arch extensions, the golf ball gear knob and the tartan upholstery. On a properly restored car every one of these details matters, right down to the smallest stickers that have often vanished over the decades.

Our stickers for the Golf GTI Mk1

This category is deliberately focused: we only offer markings we know we can reproduce accurately, and it will grow as our research continues:

• "Das Original" sticker with Volkswagen logo and year, reproduced from a period example;
• "Volkswagen Das Original" keyring in soft PVC, a STICK-IN design to go with your GTI's keys;
• Marking suggestions: tell us which sticker your Golf is missing, we look into every request.

Restoring a Golf Mk1: mind the details

Before fitting a period sticker, establish the exact year of your car: the Mk1 went through many detail changes during production, and an inconsistent year is quickly spotted. Check on the product page that the year shown matches your car's build date. Clean the surface with a degreaser, let it dry, then apply at room temperature starting from one edge to avoid bubbles. If a marking you need is missing from this selection, feel free to suggest it: many of our items started as requests from owners.

Each sticker is faithfully reproduced and made to order in France within 3 to 7 days by fans of seventies and eighties performance cars.
