205 XS & GT

205 XS and GT: the sporting spirit without the GTI badge

On sale from 1983, the Peugeot 205 soon branched out into livelier versions. Just below the GTI, the 205 GT and later the XS offered sporty trim, a three-door body and small, free-revving petrol engines, at a lower price and with cheaper insurance. Many were modified, dressed up as GTIs or simply worn out: those that kept their original trim are now sought after.

Their identity rests on a few details: the badge on each front wing, the black grained door pillars and the Peugeot Talbot Sport atmosphere recalling the World Rally titles won in 1985 and 1986 by the 205 Turbo 16.

• Textured door pillar trims in black, exterior, for three-door 205s.
• Period graphics: PTS triple grille stripes, "Un constructeur sort ses griffes" and "Champion du monde des rallyes 1985 et 1986" rear window stickers, Speedline stickers for PTS SL434 wheels.
• Engine bay labels: Shell or Esso oil cap, coolant, alternator and battery, cooling circuit, "Attention clé à bougie", plus the "râpe" badge.
• Keyrings: "205", PTS stripes, PTS logo and 1980s Peugeot lion, STICK-IN creations.

Finding the right badge colour

The "GT" badge exists in several colours: check the original colour on the opposite wing or on photos of your car before restoration, and confirm the body colour on the manufacturer's plate. To fit, position the lettering with masking tape, aligned with the wing edge, after thorough degreasing.
