Elise S1 (1996 - 2000)

Elise S1, Lotus back to its roots

Unveiled at the 1995 Frankfurt Motor Show and on sale from 1996, the Elise S1 applies Colin Chapman's motto to the letter: add lightness. Its extruded and bonded aluminium chassis, composite body and mid-mounted 1.8-litre Rover K-series four-cylinder keep its weight remarkably low. It is named after Elisa, granddaughter of Romano Artioli, who owned the company at the time.

Over its career the S1 came in several versions: the 111S with VVC variable valve timing, the Sport 135, and commemorative editions such as the Type 49, inspired by the Gold Leaf livery, and the 50th Anniversary. Each has its own graphics, which enthusiasts spot at a glance.

Identify your Elise S1's edition

On an S1, the decal colour depends on the edition and sometimes on the body colour: before ordering, compare any traces left on your car, period photos and the pictures on our product pages. The composite body needs gentle preparation: degrease with diluted isopropyl alcohol rather than a strong solvent, fit at room temperature and work slowly over the curves, warming the film slightly if needed.

Faithful reproductions, made to order in France by Lotus enthusiasts.
